Đối mặt với án tù 165 năm vì mở điện thoại khóa mạng

Kiếm hơn 25 triệu USD bằng việc đánh cắp tài khoản, mở điện thoại khóa mạng, một người đàn ông Mỹ đối mặt với án tù 165 năm.

Hôm 1/8, Bộ Tư pháp Mỹ công bố cáo trạng đối với Argishti Khudaverdyan. Theo The Verge, bồi thẩm đoàn đã kết án ông Khudaverdyan với tội danh sử dụng tài khoản đánh cắp để mở khóa “hàng trăm nghìn điện thoại di động” trong khoảng thời gian tháng 8/2014-6/2019. Người đàn ông này từng làm chủ một chi nhánh cửa hàng T-Mobile ở khu vực Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, Mỹ.

Theo bản cáo trạng, Argishti Khudaverdyan, 44 tuổi, đã kiếm được khoảng 25 triệu USD từ hành vi nêu trên. Trong nhiều năm, ông ta hack vào hệ thống của nhà mạng T-Mobile để lấy trộm tài khoản, mở hàng trăm nghìn điện thoại khóa mạng.

Hiện tại, Argishti Khudaverdyan phải đối mặt với ít nhất 2 năm tù giam vì hành vi trộm cắp tài khoản. Ngoài ra, với tính nghiêm trọng của vụ việc, bản án tối đa có thể lên đến 165 năm tù, cho đầy đủ các tội danh lừa đảo, rửa tiền và truy cập mạng máy tính trái phép. Phiên tòa tuyên án sẽ diễn ra vào ngày 17/10 .

Những chiếc điện thoại được bán ra từ nhà mạng có giá rẻ hơn. Tuy nhiên, chúng được gắn với một gói cước di động, trả phí hàng tháng. Người dùng chỉ có thể gắn SIM và sử dụng dịch vụ Internet của nhà mạng này trong thời gian hợp đồng. Việc khóa mạng còn để ngăn người dùng đang trong thời hạn của gói cước bỏ trốn, bán thiết bị phần cứng kiếm lời.

Argishti Khudaverdyan đã cung cấp dịch vụ mở khóa điện thoại lock, có thu phí. Để thực hiện điều này, ông ta gửi email lừa đảo đến các nhân viên của T-Mobile để lấy trộm thông tin đăng nhập vào hệ thống của nhà mạng. Bị cáo cho biết bản thân đã chiếm dụng hơn 50 tài khoản của nhân viên AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile và các nhà mạng khác.

Theo bản cáo trạng, Argishti Khudaverdyan có thể truy cập vào công cụ mở khóa của T-Mobile qua Internet từ năm 2014 đến năm 2017. Sau khi công ty chuyển sang sử dụng mạng nội bộ, ông ta bị cáo buộc đã đánh cắp tài khoản nhân viên và đăng nhập qua Wi-Fi ở cửa hàng T-Mobile.

Bộ Tư pháp Mỹ cho biết Khudaverdyan từng sở hữu một cửa hàng chi nhánh của T-Mobile có tên Top Tier Solution trong một thời gian ngắn. Sau đó, ông ta bị chấm dứt hợp đồng vì có hành vi bất thường. Trong nhiều năm, Argishti Khudaverdyan quảng bá dịch vụ mở khóa của mình qua email, trang môi giới và nhiều website khác. Bị đơn nói với khách hàng rằng đây là dịch vụ mở khóa chính chủ từ T-Mobile.

Hàng trăm nghìn điện thoại đã được mở khóa trái phép, bao gồm nhiều iPhone của Apple. Ngoài ra, lượng lớn máy bị đánh dấu mất cắp cũng được người này mở khóa.

Ngoài ra, bản cáo trạng còn chỉ ra việc Argishti Khudaverdyan đã có một cuộc sống xa hoa nhờ số tiền kiếm được từ dịch vụ mở khóa mạng điện thoại. Nhiều chiếc đồng hồ đắt tiền, siêu xe bị thu giữ từ người này.

Argishti Khudaverdyan không phải là người duy nhất bị buộc tội vì hành vi mở khóa điện thoại trái phép, vượt giới hạn do nhà sản xuất áp đặt. Năm 2021, một người đàn ông tên Muhammad Fahd bị kết án 12 năm tù vì mở khóa khoảng 2 triệu máy điện thoại mạng AT&T. Một trường hợp khác là Garry Bowser cũng phải ngồi tù và chịu phạt 10 triệu USD vì bán bản mod game cho Nintendo Switch.

Ở Việt Nam, nhiều dòng điện thoại khóa mạng của Samsung, LG, Apple được các đại lý nhỏ lẻ phân phối. Loại sản phẩm này được cài sẵn nhiều ứng dụng “rác” từ nhà mạng mà khách hàng không thể xóa. Ngoài ra, những dòng máy Android khóa mạng phải chạy lại phần mềm để sử dụng ổn định.

Riêng iPhone, khách hàng phải sử dụng SIM ghép để kết nối mạng và nghe gọi. Hình thức “lách luật” này khiến đường truyền không ổn định, hao pin và nóng máy.
